Through dedicated practice of kata, kumite, and kihon (basic techniques), SLKU karatekas strive to achieve personal growth, foster camaraderie, and represent our community with honor and pride both on and off the dojo floor.

Sensei Adewole Bamie Davies began karate in 1984 at Chuck-su Martial Arts Academy under Sensei Ambrose Walker and the late Sensei Ferose Amsin. He earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in 1997, graded in front of key national karate figures.

Between 1996 and 1998, he was Sierra Leone’s Lightweight Karate Champion (-65kg). He later trained in Guinea under Sensei Med Kaita, and upon returning in 2000, became Chief Instructor of Chuck-su Martial Arts Academy.

Sensei Sulaiman Bah began his karate journey in 1990, driven by a passion for discipline, self-defense, and personal development. He earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in 1997, marking the beginning of a long-standing commitment to martial arts excellence.

A formidable competitor, he represented Sierra Leone in the prestigious Mano River Peace Tournament, and participated in several international events. His first international appearance was in 2007 during a Sierra Leone vs Liberia tournament, followed by notable bouts in the Sierra Leone vs Nigeria event and the Guinea Youth Championship in 2010, where he won the Heavyweight Title.

He earned his 2nd Dan in 2007 and was awarded his 3rd Dan Black Belt in 2012.

In 2015, Sensei Bah was appointed National Coach of the Sierra Leone Karate Federation, leading the national team to the Zone 2 Karate Championships in both 2016 and 2017. His leadership and strategic guidance helped elevate the team’s regional profile.

Sensei Akim Mansaray began practicing karate in 1988 under Sensei Faozi Kondeh in Guinea. After five years of rigorous training, he earned a Brown Belt (3rd Kyu). Upon returning to Sierra Leone in 1992, he founded the Kanazawa Karate Academy, where he continues to serve as the Technical Chief Instructor.

Sensei Christian Bangura began his martial arts journey in 2001 at Chuck-su Martial Arts Academy under the mentorship of Sensei Adewole Davies. He later joined Budo Martial Art Institute under Sensei Idrissa Massaquoi, further sharpening his skills.

He earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in March 2011, certified in front of senior national karate figures. He has represented his dojo in numerous tournaments and continues to diversify his martial knowledge across different styles.

Sensei Mohamed Conteh began his karate journey in 1997 with Sensei Brian Fyle at Shangoja Martial Arts Academy. In 2002, he moved to Freetown Angry Tigers, training under Sensei Leslie Smith and Sensei Abubakarr Alladin from yellow belt to Brown Belt 1st Kyu.

In 2008, Sensei Conteh passed the national grading conducted by the then president of the Sierra Leone Association of Martial Arts and earned his Shodan Black Belt. He competed in several local championships and became a trained and qualified referee in both kata and kumite.

He earned his Nidan Black Belt in 2013, Sandan in 2018, and Shidan in Traditional Karate in 2022. With over 25 years of Shotokan Karate experience, Sensei Conteh has trained numerous black belts and remains committed to the development of karate in Sierra Leone.

Sensei Samuel Decker

Sensei Samuel Decker was born on 3rd September 1978 in Sierra Leone. He began his karate journey in 1994 at the Ling Ping School of Martial Arts, where he trained diligently and earned his Black Belt in 2002.

Between 2002 and 2006, Sensei Decker dominated the heavyweight division, remaining undefeated and securing the title of Manor River Heavyweight Champion in 2006.

He is currently a 3rd Dan Black Belt, graded by Shihan PK Muana, and serves as the Chief Instructor at Ling Ping School of Martial Arts.

Sensei Lamin began his karate training in 1992 under Sensei Abass Kamara. He later joined the Showdown Shotokan Karate School and the Angry Tigers Shotokan Karate School. He earned his Black Belt 1st Dan after competing successfully in local championships.

Lightweight karate champion in 2001 & 2002, graded to 2nd Dan in 2006, and was voted Best Karateka in Sierra Leone in 2012 & 2013. Sensei Lamin won a silver medal at the UFAK Championships in Dakar, Senegal, and was promoted to 3rd Dan in 2015.

UFAK-certified referee and coach, he led the national team to second place in 2018. In 2023, he officiated at the UFAK championships in Dakar and the West Africa Commonwealth and Mano River Union championships in Freetown. In 2022, he was promoted to 4th Dan by Hanshi Francis Fuster.

Sensei James Musa began his karate journey in 2002 under the guidance of Sensei Wallace and Sensei Med Spa. Starting from white belt, he steadily progressed and earned his Black Belt in 2013.

He has competed in five local championships, winning two titles in the middleweight category. In 2018, he trained in the TOA system and was promoted to 2nd Dan Black Belt.

Sensei Musa currently serves as the Welfare Officer of the Sierra Leone Karate Union and is a proud karateka dedicated to the growth of karate in Sierra Leone.
